How Can You Help Right Now
What Are We Doing Right Now
1. URGENT! Immigration Action Alert!
Please contact your legislators and urge them to vote against our Governor’s latest executive orders and proposals which are detrimental to undocumented workers; i.e. Prohibition on current city sanctuary laws which ban local law enforcement from asking about immigration status. Go to the Legislative Contacts page to take action. Read more about the Governor’s plan of action as Patrick Ness reviews what is happening by clicking here.
2. Supporting the Second Day Chance on the Hill. Read more about it here.
With an eye toward Humane Comprehensive Immigration Reform, the CTK Immigration Committee works to respond with a Catholic voice to the growing debate of our state and federal immigration laws.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to remember the Gospel mandate to extend hospitality to the stranger. Our Catholic position regarding immigration reform is based on Catholic social teaching, which is derived from the Gospels and the words of Christ.
The growing anti-immigrant sentiment in the U.S. is often based on myths about the economic consequences of undocumented immigrants. As a result, undocumented workers and their families are forced to live in a shadow subculture of fear.
The current immigration system is broken and in need of significant reform. The church asks all Catholics to consider being involved in this important question.
